James Blakey is the author of more than forty short stories across a variety of genres. He is a three-time nominee for the Short Mystery Fiction Society’s Derringer Award, winning in 2019 for his story “The Bicycle Thief.”

His debut novel, Superstition, a paranormal thriller, was published by City Owl Press in 2024.

He is also the author of three short story collections: The Cat Who Loved David Duchovny, Fast Times at Spiro Agnew High, and The Five People You Meet in Atlantic City.

James is the publisher and co-editor of the regional speculative anthologies from Whitaker Lyon Press, including Charlottesville Fantastic, Shenandoah Fantastic, Virginia Fantastic, and Richmond Fantastic.

He lives in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and leads writers’ groups in Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Shenandoah County and is a former secretary of the Rocktown Writers Guild.
